Súil Amach | An Outward Eye is a major new exhibition, inspired by the Irish saying “An té a bhíonn siúlach, bíonn scéalach” or "Those who travel have stories to tell”. It brings 24 portraits of contemporary Irish writers together alongside a unique pop-up library featuring their work translated across all 24 official EU languages. The exhibition opened in the European Parliament Building in Brussels on 8th September 2026 and runs until December 31st.
Supported by Culture Ireland and the Department of Foreign Affairs, the exhibition celebrates the international reach of Irish writing as part of Cultúr 2026: Sharing Ireland’s Culture, the cultural programme for Ireland's Presidency of the Council of the European Union. A selection of the works with some behind-the-scenes photos follows - click any image for a slideshow. There is a video of the exhibition launch here, and a walk-through video here.
